Secret Voyage to Vietnam
October 2022
Heart of Vietnam is an annual charity banquet held in the Fall by the Vietnamese Student Association
at the University of South Florida. Our event celebrates Vietnamese culture with the local Vietnamese community
and other VSA organizations statewide.
Heart of Vietnam offers guests a night of cultural showcases, memorable performances from local performers
and a popular headliner, and authentic Asian food.
All proceeds from ticket sales and donations go towards our annual philanthropy, which is decided by the Union of North American Vietnamese Students Association (UNAVSA) and its Collective Philanthropy Project.
This year, the philanthropy is One Body Village, a non-profit organization with programs that aim to rescue, restore, and prevent sexually abused and exploited children in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in collaboration with One Body Village Canada and One Body Village Vietnam (Nhip Cau Hanh Phuc).
Back Story
Vietnam is home to the largest cave in the world (Hang Sơn Đoòng) The name "Son Doong" cave means "mountain river cave", It was created 2-5 million years ago by river water eroding away the limestone underneath the mountain. Where the limestone was weak, the ceiling collapsed creating huge skylights.
The cave is thought to be closely related to the symbolic HEART, and is often a place where the self and ego unite. They can be secret passageways to an underworld, places in which to make contact with the powers and forces which will eventually make their way into the world of light.
