Vietnamese International
Student Association
August 2022

Vietnamese International Students Association, are a non-profit, non-political student association that strives to foster
a greater unity within Vietnamese Int. students and other USF communities by
engaging in various social events, and workshop activities.

VISA aspires to be a close companion for members as they spend their time at USF,
particularly in regard to accommodation, study, and life.

Brief and Research

Q: What is the inspiration/idea that we want to convey from the brand identity design?

To effectively convey our vision through the logo, I selected a color palette of yellow and dark blue, complemented by white. These two colors harmonize to project a professional (blue) yet simultaneously vibrant and motivating atmosphere (yellow) within the logo.

Additionally, I opted for an airplane image within the logo. This choice was influenced by the recognition factor it holds for international students traveling to the United States. Furthermore, to imbue the logo with a cultural element, I incorporated an image of wheat. This decision resonates with the majority of Vietnamese people whose livelihoods are tied to agriculture, particularly wheat farming. Finally, the sun in the background further aligns with the organization's vision, symbolizing our collective pursuit of our dreams. Just as the sun rises each day, my organization is helping international students take steps towards realizing their dreams and goals.

Q: Why create VISA? Why here at USF?

Since the Fall semester of 2021, there has been a continuous and substantial increase in the number of Vietnamese international students at the University of South Florida (USF). These students now rank among the top three countries with the highest representation among undergraduates at USF. The escalating trend in their enrollment over the past few years highlights a growing demographic on campus.

However, despite the increasing numbers, the surge in Vietnamese international students has revealed a notable gap in support services at USF. Unlike some other student communities, there is currently no dedicated support network for Vietnamese undergraduates. This absence of a community makes it challenging for these international students to seek assistance or guidance as they navigate the complexities of studying in a foreign country.

Q: What do the first few steps of founding VISA look like?

Recognizing the need for a community of Vietnamese international students, we have united together and started building the foundations of this community. Every aspect for the founding works was divided and executed by selected talents from the demographic. Through unity and collaboration, we aim to establish a vibrant and supportive community that caters to the diverse needs of its members.

Visa-ble Directions is a guide created by the Vietnamese International Student Association at USF to help students navigate your new life in the U.S. Our goal is to provide them with the information and resources you need to succeed and thrive during your time here.

In this issue, you’ll find articles that cover a range of topics, from dealing with homesickness and academic stress to navigating school resources and finding a community that fits you. We also have personal stories from fellow international students who have faced similar challenges and overcome them.

Marketing Products and Merchandises

Merchandises

Merchandises for Vietnamese International Student Association (VISA) including tote bags, T-shirts, pens, keychains and stickers, buttons,... VISA’s designers took a more creative turn to VISA merch and incorporated more cultural significant images into the products to enhance the connection between members’ identity (who are using the merchandises) with VISA, thus maximizing the organization’s exposure on and off campus.

Mascot (in progress)

The Crane, a very familiar element often seen in the countryside of Vietnam. Not only is it a cultural image, the crane also symbolise the desire to fly high and reach the sky, which aligns with the organization’s purpose.
